Shepard Boulevard Christmas Light Installation — Columbia
Mid-century Columbia: long low rooflines, split-level fronts, wide lots and trees that have had sixty years to fill in. Some of the most satisfying lines we hang.
The best-value rooflines in Columbia
The streets around Shepard Boulevard are postwar and mid-century Columbia at its most settled — ranches and split-levels on generous lots, curving streets rather than a grid, carports and attached garages, and a tree canopy that has been growing since the houses went up. From a lighting point of view this is close to ideal. Rooflines are long, low and largely uninterrupted, which is the single biggest factor in both how good an install looks and what it costs.
Why are ranch rooflines cheaper to light?
Access. Most of the run is reachable without heavy ladder work or roof time, so the labour side of the quote drops and more of your budget goes into the lights on the house. A long single-storey run is also the easiest shape to get dead level, which is what people actually respond to when they drive past.
What do you do with a split-level front?
Treat the two levels as two deliberate lines rather than one that steps awkwardly. Run the lower roof clean across, run the upper clean across, and let the vertical between them stay dark. Trying to chase every change in height with one continuous strand is how split-levels end up looking untidy.
The trees are enormous. Can they be lit?
Some of them, honestly, cannot — not to a height that would look right, and we would rather say so than take your money for a tree that ends up lit only in its bottom third. What works on a mature canopy tree is wrapping the trunk and the first fork properly and heavily, which gives the yard a real anchor. Smaller ornamentals we can take much further.
Do you handle timers?
Every install goes on a timer or a photocell so you are not standing in the cold plugging things in. Tell us the on and off times you want, or leave it to us and we will set something sensible — usually dusk until late evening, which is when anyone is actually looking.
One call does the whole season
